| So here's my rather late
Halloween 2001 column. Is anyone else having trouble getting into the Halloween
spirit, or maybe just frazzled and rushed with all the various things to do? It
seems like everyone in LA wasn't in the mood for Halloween, and there were no
amazing houses in Beverly Hills with fantastic decorations, until all of a
sudden, at the last minute everyone's rushed and buzzed and gone nuts planning
things and organizing Halloween ideas. From this weekend through Wednesday
there's 3 or 4 things to do every day and night, and I just don't have the
money, time, or costumes to do half as much as I want!
Parties
Going to or hosting? That really determines what you need to do. For hosting a
party, at this late measure, better make it something casual.. food and drinks,
either music or make it a movie night, but no mandatory costumes. Going to?
hmm.. if you're costume is elaborate, start getting dressed early! Last night I
started putting on makeup at 7:30pm. My makeup, then my sister's makeup. Then
the sky-high powder-blue Madame Pompadour wig, mask, pvc corset and sheer
ballgown skirt. Got out to the car by 11:45 (it was an uphill walk in corsets,
floor-length skirts, stilleto heels and stiletto-heeled boots.. we were
complaining and giggling long before we got to the car.) Stuck in traffic by
12:15, made it to the party by 12:45. Thank god goths are night people and the
party didn't end till 6-ish.
Finger foods are the best thing to do for a large party, a buffet or sit-down
dinner for a smaller gathering. Drinks are your own policy, but remember you
can do very fun things with ice cubes! (no, not that, I meant freezing things
into the ice cubes.)
Casual Halloween
This is something I'm seriously tempted to do myself this Halloween. Rent a
pile of movies, lock the doors (put a bowl of Halloween candy outside), turn
off all the lights, light a candle or two, or maybe the christmas lights, make
some popcorn or other fun treats, and just have a fun evening in.

Hitchcock): Evil

Or have a vampire movie night (be warned... some of these really suck ;p ):

Nightmare Before Christmas Takes Over Disneyland
If you're anywhere near the Southern California area, try hitting Disneyland.
Maybe not Halloween day/night, but at some point between now and January 10th.
They've redecorated the Haunted Mansion for Christmas-time! Animatronic Jack
Skellington and Zero preside over the festivities as X-mas descends on the
mansion and it's ghosts. Jack-o-lanters, candles, cobwebs, monsters and
christmas stockings! Tim Burton-esque wrapping paper and pumpkins abound.
Definitely go check this out! I should post a few pics by the end of today.
