| Wasn't anywhere near as horrible as I
thought it would be, and was probably the funniest movie I have ever seen,
"Fish boy" nearly made me fall out of my seat laughing, but it was
too predictable, seeing as my friend Shanen and I were sitting there saying
what would happen right before it would.
I liked it but I think I will reserve judgement on it until I see the version
of it that wasn't hacked to pieces for the censors, one part in the movie the
girl is standing before the grave of Doctor Satan and I expected to be written
on it "here lies Rob Zombie's vision". oh and Sheri Moon looks and
sounded legitimately bloody evil, she was perfect in the movie, the rest of the
cast well the older brother guy(white hair) sounded so much like Devin Townsend
I thought it was him at first but it wasn't cause if it was I would have known
due to that whole Devin obsession I am currently on. other than Sheri the other
actors were pretty bad, unable to convey any emotion let alone scared to death
you're about to die.
The best thing about it was of course the imagery and cinematography(spelled
wrong I know) which were simply amazing, the movie wasn't very scary at all,
but in the same way that the Ring wasn't scary the imagery sticks in your head,
even now hours after I have seen it several scenes which were pretty dammed
disturbing stick in my mind. There were a few scenes that I felt were done
extremely well such as the part when "devin" has the cop on his knees
and the movie freezes... to the point that I swear the whole idea was for the
audience to be screaming "fucking kill him already", such a great
scene that one.
The movie had (and I am sure this was intentional) what I am sure is a campy
70s combination of a russel myers film and that of the texas chainsaw massacre,
it's the kind of movie where basically you can just shut your mind off and
enjoy it, as really there is no thought involved in this, and if you do think
to much about it you'll lose what Zombie was trying to create here, for
instance if you so searching for a plot, or something that makes any sense,
don't bother it doesn't have one.
What I didn't feel was necessary was the addition of the supernatural toward
the end, zombies, and the other wacked out creations of Doctor Satan, who
looked like a cross between the cryptkeeper and a person from a game I
play(warhammer 40k) Fabius Bile, complete with his Churgeon backpack, this
wasn't necessary the movie was fine when it just involved the family itself
killing and maiming everyone.
Overall I liked the movie I felt it was in no way disappointing when it came to
being a strictly fucked up horror flick, the type that are not really made
anymore, there are some genuinely disturbing scenes in this movie, ones where
yeah it gives you a glimpse into the mind of Rob Zombie and just how nuts that
man really is, but it's a not a thriller, it's not a "scare the hell out
of you" thing, it failed to even effect my heartbeat in it's current
incarnation it's been cut to pieces, and sure the little interludes are well
done and pretty cool, but you can tell that so much was removed that mabye when
they are put back in they will make sense.
In that respect I suggest anyone going to see this strictly for the Zombie
aspect wait until they release the director's cut on DVD, that's what I wanna
do anyways before I REALLY form an opinion on it, as even slashed to hell as
this was I liked it, the version that Zombie intended us to see should be quite
a treat.
