My buddy Sue and I
ventured out to The Bata Shoe Museum. Copious amounts of information as well as
exhibits and artifacts detailing the evolution of footwear. Footwear collection
categories include those of the North American Indian, Ethnological,
Circumpolar, Walk of Fame (those of celebrities and renown figures). Truly
amazing displays.
I was anxious to locate historical evolution of the various styles of boots,
and perhaps some Gothic fetish footwear, but was a tad disappointed that the
information was not available - yes, I have a major boot fetish, especially for
kick-ass, steel-toed, 20 hole boots! It was most disappointing when there was
no mention of Doc Marten's work of art (unless, of course, being the usual
oblivious self, I TOTALLY missed it). On a brighter note, though, Fluevog is on
display and to learn that he is Canadian, makes me proud of the fact that I
possess a pair of kick-ass Fluevog boots!!!
Needless to say, it was an enriching experience. We were in epiphany,
meticulously reading the historical details of the style, rationale and
significance of footwear for the various era and countries. Check out the
architecture of the building itself as well: see www.mtarch.com/bsm.html for details of the museum design.
