Superhalo w/CJ Sleez LIVE Friday November 3rd, 2000

I did not expect this at all. Winston from Superhalo asked me to check the band out at this show...and in my head all I was thinking was "I've been disappointed by every band that i have ever seen a second time...unless they have totally reinvented themselves". Since it has only been a couple of months though since the last time I had the chance to see them live, I figured my chances weren't that grand on the latter happening.

Well, I got down to the El Mocambo and at least didn't have to pay (I love being on bands guestlists)...and I got to check out a couple of acts that I hadn't had the opportunity to check out yet since my move back to the big city.

The opening band which had a more rock and roll approach had monster skills. Fuck, they oozed talent. Vocals were smooth and the guitartist was fucking amazing. But here comes the problem...notice how I haven't mentioned a name yet...that's because I don't remember it. The bands only drawback is from lack of presence(and a name that doesn't stick in your head). They have nothing to make them stand out from the throng of incredibly talented bar bands out there. As soon as I remember the name of this otherwise phenomenal act, I'll post it....

Then came the big surprise for me...Superhalo took the stage. Wolfgang doing his usual dynamic entrance (though anything Wolf does seems dynamic with that hair). These guys rock live! Their smooth blend of alternative and elements of industrial translate so well into their live show...I can't imagine what they would be able to accomplish with a label budget behind them as well. I found myself once again lost in Superhalos music. The real treat though is when they did a kick ass cover of "Why Can't I Be You" straying away from the typical tributes to the Cure. They did what I though was impossible and had me blown away by a live performance a second time. Now i'm already jonesing to see them play again.

Last but definitely not least CJ Sleez, local screaming vixen, took the stage and immediately got my attention. I had been wanting to check her act out for a while now. Now this is what I call a rock n roll fucking orgy. CJ was dressed up in her fetish gear and writhing around on stage (much to the pleasure of the testosterone filled men in the audience) to try and get the crowd motivated with little response (someone has to make sure that the seating isn't so damn close to the stage at the Elmo so that it doesn't make it so easy for people to be lazy). A few members of the crowd responded though with fetching her beer and some kind of Motts that ended up all over the CJ, the band, and a lot of the audience members. Even though the band isn't really my style of music...I enjoyed myself.

All in all...a kick ass array of differing music styles...well worth the trip
