The Cure - Dreamtour June 12 2000 (Toronto, Molson Amphlitheatre)

Although warnings against bringing camera/audio equipment were specifically stated on our tickets, security was very lax and I regretted not bringing my camera, especially with the superb view from my 200 level seat. I first spent my grocery money on a dreamtour tshirt (50$) and tour book (20$). The necklaces unfortunately sold out quickly. I was in my seat by around 7:45pm, and missed the soundcheck. Purple swirling universes began to light the stage, and, without warning, the band crept out and started with Out of This World, which they've opened with throughout the tour. The format for the setlist seemed to follow previous ones, not that this is a bad thing. The initial imagery was somewhat unexciting for the first group of songs, but started getting more fun as the evening progressed. Darkness was still not upon us for much of the concert, which I didn't mind, though it was nicer once the sun was setting. The imagery for later songs was not subtle or confusing, for example we saw water and rain during Prayers for Rain, fire during 39, bloodflowers during Bloodflowers, and trees for Forest. A particularily nice effect was Roberts face during Sinking, which moved in and out of focus and view on the big screen as he sang. Robert also greeted fans during two songs, to the left and right of the stage. He didn't speak much during the concert, mostly interspersing songs with "Thank you" or introducing the next song. Throughout the concert, Robert seemed tired, but happy to be there. The first set ended, typically, with Bloodflowers, which was poignant. Robert didn't ever seem to want to leave the stage, lingering instead, and several times almost returing to the mike as if "just one more time and I'll walk away". We were treated to three encores. It was a poignant time, especially listening to many of the lyrics from the Bloodflowers album which hint at the disintegration of The Cure as we know it. The crowd was quite lively by the final encore, and most people sang and danced to the last Cure songs many of us will ever hear live.

Setlist : Out of This World, Watching Me Fall, Want, Fascination Street, Open, The Loudest Sound, Maybe Someday, Shake Dog Shake, From The Edge of The Deep Green Sea, In Between Days, Sinking, Prayers for Rain, 100 Years, End, 39, Bloodflowers.
First Encore : There is No If, Trust, Plainsong, Disintegration. Second Encore: All Cats are Grey, Faith.
Third Encore: Lovesong, Play for Today, Just Like Heaven, Forest.
