Perdition
Vatikan, Toronto, February 9th 2002 |
February 9th saw the
Vatikan night club play host to Toronto-based band Perditions c.d.
release party for Nothing Else Remains.
Despite the chaotic sound system in effect that night, Perdition put on a
stellar show, engaging the sizable crowd with a strong sampling of their new
work and a commanding stage presence. Swirling mists of dry ice and flickering
candelabras completed the mood for Perditions performance, enhancing the
haunting quality of this bands productions.
Opening with the second track featured on the c.d. Earthsong,
Perdition offered up a thick mix of heavy bass, deep guitar strains and fluid
vocals that won the clubs admiration. Additional songs, such as
Narrow Eye and Wash Away focused some deserving
attention on the bands female vocalist, Jen, whose ethereal melodies
provided a nice contrast to the bands overall showing. Lead vocalist
Chris belted out his refrains during the bands renditions of
Sorry and Im Not the One, much to the pleasure of
the crowd, while Steven and Thors heavy acoustics and Jens
synthetic melodies were finely executed with seeming effortlessness.
In its entirety, Perditions emotionally charged set and varied sound were
received enthusiastically. Audience turnout and response to this event showed
the night to be successful, ranking Perditions act as one that was both
an auditory and visual feast.

Perdition
Vatikan, Toronto, February 9th 2002 |
I just came back from my
first visit to the Vatikan. I liked the club. I met a few cool people. But: the
sound was not good. I could barely hear the band (Perdition) from the bar.
Perdition's stage presence was amazing, it just would have been nice to hear
more of them.
