| Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia May 5th 2001, Opera House
|
All right now I realize Lolita reviewed this show but let me tell you how it went down from a true fans point of view.
I got to the Opera House at about 7:30 or so and waited in line by the tour buses for the band. As I was waiting to go in I noticed the drummer from Dimmu Borgir formerly of Cradle Of Filth fame Nick Barker was hanging out so I took the chance and met him. He was a really nice guy (unfortunately the other members were sleeping before the show.) Anyways it was a little after 8 and I finally got in. Lamb Of God played and well they weren't bad. They are like a death metal band who have a singer that sounds like Philip Anselmo when he sings aggressively.
So after a few beers and checking out the merchandise The Haunted came on and put on a great show. Now for those of you who don't listen to this type of Metal and were only there for Cannibal or Dimmu: The Haunted is made of the former singer of the death metal band At The Gates, thus is why they played Blinded By Fear and everyone moshed and surfed like hell *hehehe sorry Lolita* not to mention the guitarist Jensen is also the guitarist from the black metal band Witchery who should be coming to The Kathedral/Reverb sometime in the fall.
The Haunted left and I was dehydrated so I got myself another drink and ran ino Jensen who signed my Witchery c.d. I then made my way as far to the front as I could for Dimmu as I have been waiting to see them for a long time.
The show began with tons of lights and smoke being pumped out as they then took the stage. They looked great especially Mustis *the keyboardist* he is so amazing at what he does and he had the best corpse paint on. Anyways the show was really disapointing due to the fact that the sound was horrible as the soundman was totally ruining the show. You couldn't even hear Shagrath's vocals let alone Vortex's beautiful backup vocals. So I was very dissapointed as Dimmu was the whole point as to why I was even there. The guitars were low so only the tone deaf could hear them it was a pity as they are an amazing band live and they put on a great show.
Despite the sound sucking their performance was great as they give the audience something to look at other then Corpse whom just seem to grunt and wave their hair around but Corpse is a different style all it's own. I can only hope that when Dimmu return they get a better sound tech so they can prove to everyone who was there for Corpse as to why Dimmu rules.
