Z Prochek - In My Mind

Z Prochek is a new band out of Sweden recently signed to the Synapse Music label (www.synapse-records.com). They produce very nice EBM/Electro-Industrial music in the vein of bands like Funker Vogt and Run Level Zero, and I personally find myself listening to this CD again & again.

The main reason I sought out this CD was the fact that it had remixes by two of my (new) favorite bands - Colony 5 & Epsilon Minus. The Colony 5 mix tries making a dance song out of 'In My Mind' with some rather un-Colony 5-like drums (while keeping the electro feel), and the Epsilon Minus mix puts a lighter spin on it and also giving it an experimental feel. Both come out sounding very good, but for entirely different reasons. The 'Pride and Fall' remix is also quite good - it's keeps the electo feel but cleans it up & makes it more EBM-y - for all us non-rivetheads, I guess.

Sacrifice Myself was probably my favorite track (to listen to) on the album; I honestly can't pick out what it is that attracts me to it so much but the chorus is INSANELY catchy. The cover of Klinik's 'Moving Hands' is also good - I've only heard the original a few times but this cover is really a step up, as far as I can tell. As for the last track, many would think it's just a joke but I really enjoyed the mix of jazz & hard industrial vocals, & would even consider playing it at a club as a kind of cool-down or "see you next week" song.

All in all, this CD rocked. Especially because it's their first. My only real complaint is that I would have like to have tracks like 'Sacrifice Myself' & 'Moving Hands' be a bit longer, but really that's only because I don't like having to hit the rewind button over & over again. :) Now pardon me while I go foam at the mouth in anticipation of their full-length release.
