VNV Nation - Future Perfect

Yes I have already recieved a copy of Future Perfect VNV Nation's brand new album. Released on Dependent (Mind 039). A review song by song by Bio.

The cd opens with a song called FOREWORD. Very beautiful synthlines with a message about how this is your world. A very human friendly message. This message is done over three times once in English (by Ronan), once in German und once in French (standard VNV opening track). These nice synthlines fade into a droneing bleeping which turns into a flatline und heavy machine noises....this evenutally turns into the tinging noises of Epicentre which is standard VNV Nation with Ronans classic vocal style ontop of pounds beats und great programming, smooth und very clear definitly a club floor hit to come.

The next track is Electronaut. An upbeat instrumental song. Very reminisante of the old VNV off Advance and Follow. Well at least synthline wise. Once again another song with great production nice clear sounds. But unfortunatly is one of those tracks that should have had vocals. Expect this to be done on a limited cd in the future.

This song fades into a classical sounding song (Liebestod). Very beautiul with violins und synths. Once again no vocals..seems that most of the tracks on this album don't have any. Another two songs that fade into each other this one being called Holding On. A sad song about lonliness. This song features the typical emotionally charged vocals seen on other depressing songs by VNV. So far this album after 5 tracks seems to be alot more technical then their pervoius work of just appealing to the club floor. With only one song that you could really get away with on the floor. Track 6 Carbon. Yet again another slow song. This one is more depressing then the last. Slow, sludgy kinda feel to it. Nice relaxing beats und synthlines.

I will not review Genesis. I assume you all have it. Time for Structures.....this is my favorite off the album. This is an odd song. It is a noise/ebm hybrid. YES I SAID NOISE!!!! If you like P.A.L. you'll like this track!!! When I first heard this I thought my cd player went to the next cd. You can't even tell it is them. Unitl the end, thats when the VNV comes out. Very loud deep pulsing synths come in to over power the noise that has been droning on for 2 minutes. The beat also seems to pick up alittle. This ends to bring in the second club song...Fearless. A very fast paced song with deep rolling basslines. There's not really that much to this song, seems they keep looping the same 1:00 over und over (but whatelse is new).

4AM is a very odd short song (1:50). Of noise, droning voice samples und the odd synthline. Clanging noise as if hitting metal with a hammer. Nice song to bad it is so short. From sad to happy. Wow finally another song with a beat. Another upbeat track that will be a club floor hit. Beloved starts as any other VNV song with nice high pitch synthlines...doubling over time adding more to the ones already there. So to be joined by Ronans nice soothing vocals. This is one of the songs they really shine on. VNV has always been excellent at build up songs. The beat does not kick in till about 3 minutes into the track, but dont worry there is still 41/2 to go :). This is one of the only tracks that is like the last album Empires. Very upbeat. Almost too happy.

What better song to close the album with then Airships. Hearing this songs makes me think of lying in a meadow staring at the clouds go by. Very mellowed out song with a Final Fantasy type sound (you'de know if you ever played that game). Unfortunately Ronan sounds like he took vocal tips from Trent Reznor on this one Using the sad quite, distorted, "I'm so depressed sound to it" sytle. Which thank god changes after some time to what else classic emotionally charged Ronan style. But hey isn't that what they are known for?

Overall it is a damn well done cd. It will appeal to those of who you like Advance and Follow more then the newer synthpop stuff. This is just EBM at its finest (did I just say that). I've been listening to this to much time to stop.

Here is the track listing. Please don't just download the album. You can but please buy it later. This is how we keep the bands around that we like.
