| Superhalo (Independent) The Cost of Breathing (1997)
|
| Toronto has
become a hotbed of promising young bands in the past few years and these guys
are one of the bright spots of the slew of groups out there. Superhalo have
become local favourites and after listening to the cd and seeing them live I
can definitely see why.
They've been referred to as "Bubble-Gum Industrial" and I'm not sure
if i'm comfortable with using that term when I talk about them. Industrial is
like any other music genre, it is diversifying and taking on new elements.
Superhalo look to be on the leading edge of a new wave of
Alternative-Industrial (along with likeminded bands Snake River Conspiracy,
Templar, and Vast).
The Cost of Breathing is an extremely well put together group of tracks. They
form elements of industrial, alternative, and straight ahead rock into a
cohesive package that is sure to please fans of nearly any genre. Not to
mention that Wolfgang Webb's vocals heavily reminds me of one of my favourite
vocalists Kevin McMahon from Prick.
As I was listening to the cd I found it hard to believe that the band still had
not been signed since their music seemed a lot more polished than your average
band. There is no doubt in my mind that Superhalo has skills...a lot of them.
It's only a matter of time before these guys hit hard.
