| Robin Black & The IRS Star Shaped Single (Teenage USA)
|
| Now this
review is long overdue. These guys are becoming Canada's glam-rock legends
quickly and they deserve the title. The strange thing is that all we have so
far is a two song single...So how have they built up a huge cult following
rivaling established bands that have been around for years? The answer is
simply..live shows. They have performed the big shows as well as skanky redneck
clubs in the middle of nowhere and most have come away blown away by their
performances.
Robin "Fucking" Black as he prefers to be called has a presence and
fashion sense like no other (as does the rest of the band). This cocky dynamo
has built up a reputation to the fans and media alike. He has an amazing amount
of confidence behind his talents and the band itself. But can Robin back up
what he barks at everyone? Well, if the band can continue to produce quality
tracks like those on the Star Shaped Single than he's got it covered.
The two tracks that are on the single are absolutely outstanding. "Time
Travel Tonight" harkens back to the good old days where glam-rock was a
lot more precedent in the music scene than it is today. This track is also a
fan favourite for the live show. "More Effeminate than You" is my
personal favourite though. This song could become the theme for all of you
goth-bois out there that have girlfriends that are jealous that you look better
in their clothes & makeup. The music is altogether incredibly well put
together and has the catchiness that sometimes this scene is seriously lacking.
IT'S JUST FUN PEOPLE!!!
The only problem that I have with the cd is....their are only 2 songs....c'mon
Robin....some of us are waiting anxiously.
