Interview with Sylvania

Steven from Toronto-Goth recently sat down and chatted with Daniel from Sylvania as a preview to their live performance at Savage Garden this Thursday (feb. 6).

steven: i guess we can start by just telling me who you are and who everyone else is

daniel: swain is the guitarist of the band,
mark plays bass
conan-keys
and of course i sing
we are sylvania

steven: how would you describe the music, more specifically compared to the furies?

daniel: swain and conan have added their influences to the music
synth-pop with a hard edge guitar and an 80's influence

steven: when and how was the band formed originally?

daniel
: the band was formed about a year ago when we found our line up

steven: and mark switched to playing bass? why?

daniel
: there was a bit of a coin toss for who played bass. swain or mark.... mark won
the band was formed about a year ago when we found our line up
we felt there was a need for bands to do our kind of music

steven: and how did you find swain and conan?

daniel: swain and i used to be neighboors and kidnapped conan at a gary numan concert

steven: and how would you classify your music?

daniel: we want capture something thats been lost in music for the past 10 years

steven: capture what exactly?

daniel: well... watching a band perform and really mean what they are doing......

steven: so putting more emotion and yourself into it

daniel
: yes definately, capture a time when music was really good

steven: i understand completely :)

steven: have you released any cds yet / working on any?

daniel: we are finalizing a distribution deal for this coming spring.

steven: musically, how would you describe sylvania and and what can one expect from your live show?

daniel: synth-pop with a hard edge guitar and an 80's influence

daniel: well... watching a band perform and really mean what they are doing......we try to put on a theatrical and magical perfomance
you can expect us to be there, wearing our gear

steven: you have the show this thurs february 6th at savage, and another show the end of the month?

daniel: i think perhaps the furies was the first band to play savage garden and we look forward to playing there again
we are also playing friday feb. 21st at the reverb... all ages show with the birthday massacre and universal love attack and dj phink

steven: anything else coming up?

daniel: we will be doing a small tour throughout canada and the us this spring

steven: with who?

daniel: we are trying to set up a tour with opening acts and in the fall we may tour with the cruxshadows

daniel: we look forward to doing a show with you as well steven

steven: anytime you want :)

steven: i should probably let you go to your rehearsal

daniel: sounds great steve

steven: ok, thanks for taking the time to do this for toronto-goth
