The following describes
who we are, explains how to subscribe and unsubscribe, offers some pointers and
advice for getting along with list mail on the Internet, and explains how the
List Owner deals with mail errors and other problems.
I recommend that you read this page all the way through, and then print it or

| Who We Are |
Toronto-goth is a
discussion group for goths who currently reside in Toronto or in the Toronto
area (ie. Mississauga, Hamilton, etc). It's a forum created for the discussion
of local music events, topics and issues relating to the gothic and industrial
sub-culture in Toronto. The original moderator created this list when her quest
to find a list for Toronto goths failed.
So being the ambitious person she is (lmao), she created this list on 15 March
1999 over at ONElist.
What follows are some rules and regulations that should help the list run
smoothly, and rules and regulations you should be aware of upon subscribing to
the list:

| Technical Rules |
If you do something truly
creative that isn't explicity covered here, we'll think up an equally creative
response.
1) Trimming and Replies - All posts to the list must be trimmed.
Remove all un-necessary dialogue and trailers from all replies. Reply text
should be entered below the quoted text. Following these two guidelines
will make messages easier for everybody to read and respond to.
2) Subject - Keep the subject relevant. If you're changing the topic,
change the subject. If you have multiple comments to make regarding different
threads, digest your responses into one reply (with a suitable subject name)
where practical. If you are subscribed to the digest version of the list, do
not keep the digest # as the subject when you are replying to a specific
message - copy and paste the correct subject.
3) Quantity - Keep the one-liners to a minimum. Yes, they're necessary,
and funny, sometimes, but if you find you have six one-liners in response to 5
different threads, digest your replies. If the list is running in "real
time", consider going to private mail, or ICQ. One-liners have their uses,
but don't abuse them.
4) Attachments - Don't send any to the list.
5) Multiple subscriptions - are not permitted. If you have multiple
accounts, please inform us as to which one you wish to remain active.
6) Privacy & Confidentiality - This is not a public forum; all
members must be approved by the moderator staff prior to becoming list members.
While it is very rare a member is rejected, bear in mind that the Toronto-Goth
list and all of it's subsidiary lists are private and confidential, and no part
of any message posted to the list(s) may be reposted by any means outside of
the list without the author's express permission.
7) Spamming, Chain letters & Forwards - Spamming, chain letters
& forwards have no place on the list. It is permitable for listmembers who
are members of local bands or organizations to make occasional announcements
about their special events, but these posts should be kept to an "as
necessary" basis and should contain the text " [AD]" in the
subject line to alert list members. Generally posting the same
event/announcement more then twice to the list can be considered Spamming the
list, at which point the moderators may take action. Chain letters and other
forwards, unless specifically related to the Toronto-Goth Community have no
place on the list, and members posting them may have punitive action taken
against them as described under the "Enforcement" section of this
document.
Content
The other side of the coin is the question of allowable content. In the past,
there were vague rules regarding conduct. This was, while often problematic,
viewed as a good thing. It is our contention that the list should set it's own
boundaries, should police itself. Certain practices will not be tolerated, such
as issues related to minors, illegal activities, personal attacks, sexual
harassment, and so on, but these are conventional standards. They need no
explanation here.
The aim of the list is to unite and support the gothic community. That aim is
best achieved within an atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Again, this is the
Toronto *GOTH* list. A certain standard of behavior and etiquette is expected.
So, there are no 'rules', but the *standards* will be enforced. Again, if
further explanation is needed, you may well be on the wrong list.
Enforcement
The list is intended to be an open forum, and it is recognized that moderating
members is not conducive to lively discussion.
Moderation will be employed for new members during a trial period (during which
time they may post to the list, but each post must be approved first by a
moderator before distribution to the rest of the list).
Moderation will also be employed for members only after warnings are ignored,
or in case of 'real-time' intervention between members.
List members will be moderated only on the agreement of two or more Moderators,
the duration to be determined on a case-by-case basis. No one will be moderated
"indefinitely". If you have ignored a warning to trim your mail, for
example, you might find yourself moderated for a day.
