DJ Lazarus exits?

Velvet Underground Thursday
Now that DJ Lazarus has made his exit from thursdays, it's almost safe to go back in the Velvet Underground. All the bizzarro world goths seemed to have followed, along with their short attention spans, and low standards... meanwhile, back at the Velvet, Gerald (the interim dj) tells me that Osaze is making an appearance - most of us showed up just to see him, and we're not dissapointed. As soon as the dj's switch, the first track is unmistakeably Osaze, tribal, psychedelic and 'goth' - the serious dancers flood the floor, as the energy of the club transforms to higher planes.... Sadly, the all too short set is over, the bartender has had a break and the club is closing soon, this club would do well to secure Osaze, and his following to counteract the stagnation and homogenization of the 'scene' visited upon us the last few years by the likes of DJ Lazarus - enjoy your zoo bar, you deserve it Osaze's DJ'ing can be enjoyed at the next Ipanema party at the reverb...

Lazarus <lazarus@djlazarus.com> wrote on Tue, February 25, 2003

Please read the review above before reading my response. It will make more sense that way. :) I think that so-called review is one of the funniest things I have ever read. I am seriously having difficulty typing a response because I am laughing too hard. Gavin you poor misinformed coward.

1. I, DJ Lazarus, have never DJ'ed at Velvet on Thursdays. Not even once. So you must be thinking of some other DJ's that have made that night intolerable. You should get your facts straight before shooting off at the mouth.

2. Insulting the entire goth community with your attacks of saying they have 'low standards and short attention spans' will do nothing to help further your cause of helping Velvet. As a matter of fact if I were a goth and read those statements I would be so pissed I would not go to Velvet. On the contrary, I feel the goth community has high standards and that is why they are coming to Zen Lounge on Thursdays. They enjoy "quality" music, sound, lights, and DJ's. In the future you might not want to attack the goth community on a goth website. It makes you look like an idiot and hurts your cause.

3. You say that Velvet Thursdays 'counteracts the stagnation and homogenization of the 'scene' visited upon by myself', DJ Lazarus. First of all that statement is complete bullshit. I am not sure what rock you are living under but it is obvious that you are just trying to attack me anyway you can to try and make Velvet look better. Let's get real for a moment... I have done/do many nights in Toronto and am very progressive in my thinking in regards to creating nights of the utmost quality. DARKRAVE was pioneering for this 'scene' and has helped evolve the goth 'scene' in Toronto in some ways. Other nights like the New Fetish Masquerade, and Panic will do the same in their own way. How exactly is Thursdays at Velvet not 'stagnant and homogenized'? Exactly.

4. Instead of attacking me with your lies and misinformation maybe you should help Velvet out by keeping your mouth shut. Even a retarded monkey can see through your ridiculous, exaggerated, and desperate attempt to try and help Thursdays at Velvet. You are doing Gerald, Osaze, and Velvet a great disservice by mentioning them in your review.

5. If you and your friends really want to help Thursdays at Velvet maybe you should just try promoting the night. Crazy idea I know. I have never seen a Velvet promoter or staff member standing outside a concert or an event in subzero weather handing flyers out or putting up posters. Hard work=success and trash talking=loser. I know which path you chose.

6. For the record I am friends with Gerald and like Osaze. I wish them the best with Thursdays at Velvet. This was never meant to be a war between club nights. I was just offered a job working Thursdays at Zen and since I have a right to earn a living I accepted it. I also knew that many people were very unhappy with the state of Thursdays at Velvet so I designed a night that would cater to the unhappy masses. It is about time that Velvet had some real competition. This will make us both try harder to make a good Thursday night and the patrons will ultimately win in this situation.

k, if we want to talk about homogenization of the scean then you should be looking at other establishments out there. Lazarus as well as other people are the faint hope that "goth" (sic) has.

(insert long goth rant here)

not saying that Osaeze doesnt rock my socks... but i would hard cassify him as a goth DJ. love him to bits, worked with him too. hope the best for velvit.

me ill be at zen. (for more resons than just the music/Dj)

and ipinima is more of a classic alternative night, i know... ive spined it.

nice work gavin - you and your 'higher-attention span, higher standard (hmm - not the last time I saw you on your knees), original goths are now free to party it down at the baycrest centre!

you breed hate - go home

Actually, I've seen Liberty advertise to the goth crowd before.

In fact, I was at Savage one Friday, and some idiot came in and dropped Liberty matchboxes on all the tables he could. I let Paul from Savage know, and he rightfully kicked the jerk out.

That's sinking pretty fucking low. Although, they also have that half-assed radio spot on the Edge. Wow, I'm sure that gets the folks out.

In the meantime, I haven't had a good time on a Thursday at Velvet since Vox was DJing.

Oh, and haha. Serious dancers. Best of all, 'energy of the club'? HAHAHA. It's Velvet on a Thursday. I've found more energy from rubbing a balloon on my hair.

Do you even know who Dj Lazarus is? I have no idea who Osaze is but I'm sure he's an alright Dj. Name's not familiar to me. Lazarus on the other hand is familiar. He's one of the few Dj's who knows what he's doing......can mix 80's to Industrial to Goth without missing a beat. There's a good reason why you, myself and many...many other people know his name so well...he's good and draws crowds. Those 'Bizarro World Goths' you mentioned have an ear for music and are most likely exposed to a wider, better variety of tunes.........and WHAT THE HELL is ' tribal, psychedelic and 'goth'!?!? You're in the 'Bizarro' world buddy!
