| The following are reviews
for the Anarchist's Cocktail (note - club is now closed.)

|
| AC as it's now referred
to, is located on Bloor, just east of Landsdowne. Thankfully close to a subway
station, but the location is still pretty scary. The club itself is great. The
owner/operator Brian is very good with listening to the suggestions of patrons,
and the staff are more than pleasant. One pool table by the bar, with tables
and chairs along the walls on both sides, with a few couches at the eastern
wall, and by the 'VIP' booth at the back by the DJ booth. Nice tall ceilings,
with a decent size dance floor. Be careful for the bolts coming out of the
floor though. They make for tripping hazards that can be quite embarrassing.
:)
Thursday nights: Soon to be DJ XXX's night, it promises to be a good
night of Industrial, Power Noise, and then some. Should be a good alternative
to Velvet on Thursdays.
Friday nights: I have no comment.
Saturday nights: The flagship night for AC, it's pretty much packed by
12:00, and goes non-stop until 3:00 AM. More good tunes by Jurgen, with fast
and pleasant service at the bar, it's one of my favourite places to go with
friends on a Saturday night. --(not much more to say)--

| The Anarchist's Cocktail
is a nice venue, very clean and spacious. There have been some complaints about
the neighbourhood, but on my visit it wasn't nearly as bad as it was made out
to be. Focus appeared to be on dancing, which is fine. There's a pool table if
that interests you. Large dancefloor, effects with fog and lighting were nice.
Drink prices are reasonable, and the staff was friendly.
I would recommend this place, especially if you want to dance the night away.

| I've been going to the AC
for a while now, and I must say that I enjoy it. I'm an ex-Sanctuary boy, so i
was expecting something somewhat like good ol' Sanc. But it's not, and I'm
actually glad. The room is big and AIR-CONDITIONED [something that we wished
Sanc had *die*] and has a nice open floor for dancing. The walls are lined with
chairs and tables with cute candles on em. There are some cubicles with padding
tho. there is a 'VIP' area beside the Dj booth. i dotn know why it has that
name, cause anyone can get up there. A nice little low wall makes it easy to
bug the DJ too *L* Overall I love the place. It has a good atmosphere and the
people are great! I'd recommend everyone to show up!

| Saturday I actually wound
up going to the Anarchist's Cocktail for the first time. As I feared, it's an
awful location, and there is nothing else even remotely interesting anywhere in
that area, so if you're not enjoying AC, then you're stuck. Pretty good place
though...it's clean, the dancefloor is big, the ceiling is high, and the lights
are awesome. On the downside, it's just one big room with no little side rooms
or nooks and crannies to explore or discreetly observe people...there's no
mystery in other words due to it's openess. Also, I found the decor to be very
sparse and uninteresting...the place has no atmosphere or aura to it, but
hopefully that will change oer time. I found the music to be ok at best, but I
was expecting so much better, especially from Juergen, who back in the days of
Surge Sundays played very edgy new material...it was basically all the same
cliched tracks you hear everywhere else, with nothing new or interesting thrown
in...at times he veered frighteningly close to 102.1 "The Edge"
material, playing Bif Naked, Chemical Brothers, and Garbage, in a row...I
thought I was at the Phoenix for a second! I think the newest song I heard was
"Dead Stars" by Covenant, which not only isn't that new anymore, but
a standard song you hear at every club. Then later he threw on some boring,
repetitive electonic crap, and that was my cue to leave. The crowd was pretty
big at least (although the women definitely seem more uh, intriguing, at the
other places, hehe), and I spotted a bunch of older goths who I've seen around
consistenly in the scene but have never met any of...they were very elaborately
dressed; it reminded me of years past when people actually still bothered to
get dressed up to go dancing, so that definitely was a plus...I doubt that's
it's always like that though. I was also surprised by the large number of total
strangers which I haven't seen at any of the other clubs before. All in all,
based on my first experience there, I'd give the place a 5 out of 10. It
definitely has potential to be very good, with some adjustments. As far as bang
for the buck though, Velvet is still far superior, and Savage as well. I'm
telling all of you though, the Volcano Room on Fridays is something we really
should support. It's a far superior location, the music is far more interesting
and cutting edge, the dj's are more accessible, and as far as decor and
atmosphere goes, it totally blows AC away, hands down. Now if only we could
fill the place with as many people as were at AC on Saturday, then it would
really be amazing...I urge all of you to go there on Fridays if you can because
it would be a real shame if we lost this night.
