Toronto goth local bands - perdition
back | local | history | shows | submit

Perdition is an expression of musical emotions that will lend themselves to anyone's hidden despair. Starting from a core of synthetic rhythms and textures, the band fleshes out their cathartic melancholy with aggressive rhythmic figures, that stab through thick washes of feedback and distortion.

Toronto-goth - Perdition

Contemplative… is the word most used to describe the songwriting and contributions from these Toronto artists, who have turned to music as the best escape vehicle for the tortured subjects of Perdition. The raw demos that Steven Vardy etches for the band seem catalyze the heartfelt sentiments of the other members. Admittedly they don't write their music for the benefit of a specific audience, which leaves them free to honestly express their material with a genuine blend of tempered delicacy and unrepentant aggression. Though all accomplished artists of various mediums, the members of Perdition have gravitated towards music as the most accessible and communicative form for their message. In performance they offer their product to any listener, without prejudice or intent. As always, beauty remains in the eye of the beholder. This is never more true than when a single listener can be brought to the depths of their own anguish by quietly laying themselves bare to the probings of Perdition…

review:
The 360 Show was another installment in the regular Indie Rocker soiree at the old Ukrainian Legion Hall on Queen West. Perditions initial introduction to the gathering crowd raised little more than indifference in the mostly underaged crowd. This stance was quickly washed of its attitude when confronted by the bands relentlessly solid sound.

A stage presence of contrasts marks this band. Thor's massive basslines, and Vardy's thick guitar stitchings evenly support the surprisingly honest, and richly satisfying vocal musings of Stephen at centerstage. Through valiant assertion, the sounds of Perdition draw an emotional line of resistance to the hints of despair in their music. Standing their ground onstage, the bands solemn aire and unrepentant groove soon win over many of the jaded youngsters in the crowd. An almost visible admiration for the strength that speaks pain without tears or malice.
