Below is the official statement from the band:
"As many of you have realized by now, we have decided to cancel our
United States tour planned for March 2008 with SITD. The background for that is
the cancellation of two Canadian Rotersand shows in October 2007 on shortest
notice due to a combination of a huge personal workload and constitutional
weakness. Since we can not rule out a similar situation for the originally
scheduled shows in 2008 we have decided to not take this risk.
We
absolutely hate cancelling shows and disappointing fans and promoters,
especially as we are well aware of the great demand for Rotersand playing in
the States and Canada. We are working on setting up a new timeframe for touring
activities in North America sometime in the not too distant future."
----------------------------------------------------
For
those expecting a complimentary pass ( instead of full refund) to the upcoming
Rotersand Spring 2008 tour, most likely this will not happen. But according to
contract agreement with Rotersand Management, Rotersand will peform in Toronto
sometime in the very near future. The date and time frame is yet to be
determined.
My only comment almost a month after the EBMfest 2008
event is that it is understandable that concert goers who buy a ticket come out
to see this band or that, but as advertised as a festival, the way EBMfest did
(with it's name being that of a festival or "fest" to begin with) all concert
goers must realize that they purchased a ticket to an event not a solo concert
and and assume the responsibility of that purchase.
There are alot
more festivals in Germany that experience last minute cancellations of bands
than Canada, and for that reason refund is not provided because there is the
agreement that concert goers purchase a ticket for the event not artist itself
and the event will carry on its' best efforts.
Likewise with EBMfest
2008, though the headliner did cancel and the replacement was a DJ set from one
of the German band members of Rotersand, EBM promotions made no compromise to
the quality of the presentation of the event. Other bands worked hard,
travelled far distances to make this event possible and if for those few who
dont understand what it means to organize and present a festival, it is best
you do not buy a ticket to a festival event anytime in the future.
The
ticket price is not for only the headliner but all the costs involved,
including rent, lights, technician, advertising and other hidden costs that
make organizing an event of this size possible.
The less support we
get for live concert event in Toronto, the less events we will see in the
future!
But by no means do i feel deterred by this experience as this
is the only event in 7 years of concert promotion that i had to deal with last
minute cancellations day of show. This can be taken as a learning experience by
both the band and myself as we forge on to the new year and what oppurtunities
may exist.
