EVIL DEAD 1 & 2
EVIL DEAD 1 & 2: THE MUSICAL RETURNS TO TORONTO FOR ONE WEEK ONLY.

Toronto, June 3rd, 2004 -- Blood! Chainsaws! Singing! - Evil Dead 1& 2: The Musical Returns to Toronto for a limited run of Previews at the Bathurst Street Theatre from June 22nd to June 26 for 7 shows only before it sets up shop in Montreal for the summer as part of the 22nd edition of Festival Just For Laughs.

A riotous musical comedy based on the cult classic horror movies, Evil Dead 1 & 2: The Musical was created by Toronto locals George Reinblatt and Christopher Bond. The script is written by Reinblatt - who holds credits writing for comedians Howie Mandel, Rick Mercer and Kelly Ripa of ‘Regis and Kelly’. The catchy tunes are written by Melissa Morris, Frank Cipolla, Bond and Reinblatt. The musical is Directed by Christopher Bond from Toronto’s Second City.

Evil Dead 1 & 2: The Musical premiered last year at the infamous Tranzac Club in Toronto and turned away hundreds of eager fans who lined up each night for a chance to see their favorite b-movie horror film put to song. Diehard ‘Deadites’ ventured across North America to witness the birth of a new cult classic. Back by popular demand, the Musical has been resurrected in its hometown Toronto for one week of preview shows only.

Its that old familiar story that we know and love: boy and his friends go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, boy accidentally unleashes ancient evil spirit, his friends all turn into Candarian Demons, and boy must fight until dawn to survive. Legendary director Sam Raimi launched his career directing Evil Dead before making the blockbuster movie Spiderman and the TV show Xena: Warrior Princess. A huge cult following has grown around Evil Dead and its sequels, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. “The trilogy delves further and further into farce and camp,” says Bond “Turning it into a musical was the next logical step”

A hilarious romp through the campy horror classic, with numbers like ‘All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons’ and ‘Do the Necronomicon’, Just For Laughs and Dueling Egos Inc. are thrilled to present a bigger, badder and bloodier Toronto Preview of Evil Dead 1 & 2: The Musical.

"It’s a bloody good time . . . In a world where Little Shop of Horrors gets revived on Broadway, there's got to be room for Evil Dead 1 & 2: The Musical" Richard Ouzounian, The Toronto Star
