Vampire Ball to Benefit Amnesty International
Toronto- March 10, 2004
With the doors opening at 8pm, on Saturday, April 3rd, 2004 at the Vatikan (1032 Queen St. west of Ossington) the newly formed Vampire Entertainment Network, founded by Christina Spooner, will be holding a Vampire Ball to benefit Amnesty International. The 19+ event combines the talents of local and out of town, dark, heavier bands (Perdition (from Toronto), Sapphic Ode (From PA, U.S.A.), Psi Vamp (from GA, U.S.A.) and Psychopathos (from Toronto)) and DJ's (Kreepy Krawly, Vortex and Th'Elf) with those of V isual Artists, clothing designers and vendors. There will also be a speaker from Amnesty, The Angels of Poverty and The 7 Deadly Sins and prize giveaways from Vampyre Almanac. The event is also sponsored by Minx Clothing, Siren and Madame Webb. Tickets are $15 with $5 from every ticket sold going to Amnesty International (www.amnesty.org).

Vampire and Goth culture have often been associated with, although not exclusive to, fetish and BDSM communities. In the midst of a night of dark fun and various forms of entertainment, The Vampire Ball will draw attention to the fact that Bondage and Slavery, played out in a consenting way between adults, is diametrically opposed to the type of rampant slavery, persecution and bondage that is passionately opposed t o by groups like Amnesty International and compassionate individuals alike.

"It's like we're actively helping to put an end to the unacceptable kind of bondage and slavery in the world by celebrating the desire to submit or dominate and in doing so realizing how powerful and (unfortunately for some) luxurious `consent' is or can be…"
Leslie Walters - Psychopathos
