What?
Music, art and magic. A cabinet of wonders come to life. The Royal Sarcophagus Society will celebrate this autumnal season with a soirée of live entertainment in Toronto¹s Distillery District. In the tradition of Victorian-era salons, the event unites different disciplines ‹ music, dance, magic, crafts, words ‹ in a decadent setting.

Who?
Diana Obscura, Cellist and performance artist who has worked with Jarboe (Swans). You may also know her as the publisher of Nyx Obscura zine and her solo EP. Diana will be our in-house cello siren, weaving spells annd transcribing ecstatic music and hymns of insects. She is travelling from Atlanta, arriving in a cloud of smoke, through the starry night: astronomers and naysayers, take note. www.dianaobscura.com

Akumu, solo trance-inducing and evocative electronic project from ³resident evil composer² Deane Hughes, formerly of Thrive. Deane will also be spinning musical interludes. www.spiderrecords.com/akumu

Rebecca Ostwald, noted Toronto choreographer has graciously offered to choreograph and perform in a magical dance piece which will wind in and out, hither and thither, between the candles and the pumpkins, patrons and ghosts. Beware! We may all fall under this spell and lose our way, or want to leave our jobs.

Sèphera Girón, lovely and magical Bran Stoker Award-approved horror author resident kind spirit and creator of House Magic: The Good Witch¹s Guide to Bringing Grace to your Space, having just finished her latest novel Curse will be there, sitting at a table, off in the shadows, reading tarot www.sff.net/people/Seph/)

Magda Trzaski, resident royal forest pixie and doll maker, will have a table selling suitably haunting autumnal art; dolls, bags, shirts, books, twigs and charms along with...

Gillian Holmes, lovely and talented, who will be selling beaded items, cards and magical bags of stones, crystals and twigs.

Tanya Schreck will prepare glass and twine, wood and metal, haunting objects and cases of light.

Annie Smidt, graphic design goddess and web weaver, former editor of Tear Down the Sky magazine, brings art surprises all the way from Boston.

Liisa Ladouceur, word worshipper, former Ninth Wave publisher and real life reporter will serve fortunes/destinies in cookie form.

E. Katie Holm, singer for Minneapolis band Glass, accomplished photographer who has shot many bands for Projekt and former co-editor of Thistle may be there in person, or in spirit with her wonderful cemetery photography and magical votive candles. (http://www.ekatieholm.com)

Why?
It was our intention, says curator and RSS co-founder David Keyes, artist, boxmaker, ³to celebrate what we so often overlook. We go to such great lengths in popular culture to escape, we spend millions of dollars on special effects, when, in fact, all it takes is a beautiful space, a hundred carved pumpkins, a thousand lit candles and incredibly talented people.

The Autumnal Soirée was conceived by the Royal Sarcophagus Society, a loose collective of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, rogues and dancers from Toronto, Boston and beyond. Much like a 17th Century Cabinet of Curiosities, the Society will present an intriguing and precious collection designed to provoke and inspire. A living Cabinet, filled with artists rather than artifacts, gathered in a brewery bôite instead of a box, surrounded by velvet, twigs, candles, pumpkins and new friends.
