It's been quite the few
weeks at Savage. First I spent almost a whole week building the new live stage
and set up. Not only is it big 16' 10' it's also totally collapsible. Which
means when not in use we do not loose any dance floor space. After yet another
gruelling renovations schedule Friday (oct29th) rolled around and Decompression
set new records at Savage as the house filled with Industrial and electro party
goers looking for their fix. Karnage and Clone were more than happy to oblige
with a non stop ebm mix that has to be one of their best yet (Way to go guys).
The killing floor kept pace with Friday as Dj Pale threw down an extremely
eclectic old style set that had the Sat crowd jumping for joy. Then came the
night all industrial freaks were waiting for, Sunday TIK special labour day
long weekend event, Converter. The crowd was packed with Americans and locals
as the room went to capacity. This really was one of the most amazing events
I've ever witnessed at Savage. 200+ people screaming for live music. The new
live set up was so loud my internal organs were bruised. Thank god Savage has
such a powerful Ac system, with that many bodies it could have got real nasty.
Instead a nice even 22. Gotta love it. If you want my whole rave on the event
then check out the savage site for write up pickys etc.
After a week
of renos, a full weekend of work then converter my brain was complete mush. And
I mean that quite literally. But that is only just the beginning of the really
good news! Drum roll please, after a month of negotiations with my present
landlord I am very pleased to announce I have just resigned the Savage Garden
Lease for another 5 years:). It's taken a lot of work, argument and continual
negotiation but it means we are now here for what will seem like ever. A full
set of renovations are planned to Savage for early next year. I won't let the
cat out of the bag yet, but the 10 year party starting on Thursday June 10th
and finishing sometime on Sunday June 13th (3 days!) will herald in a new
beginning at Savage in some very, very big ways. Ask your boss for the time off
now and get ready for the party to end all parties.
A special thanks
to everyone that took the time to come down and check out the band a random exit on
Thursday Sept 4th. They were totally amazing. These guys from Sudbury put on a
great live show, keep your eyes peeled for them in future as they are most
defiantly going somewhere. Some people may remember my reticence to go back to
live shows from a few years back (I did it for the first 4 years at Savage and
decided to can it when bookings slowed down). Well Toronto is now become a hub
of talented musicians again. I'm happy to go back to promoting a live room on
Thursdays at Savage, because the interest and bands are there to do it. It's a
lot of work and more a labour of love than anything else, but it is really the
very base of any scene. Without the local talent and commitment at this grass
roots level we are only importing a scene from somewhere else not creating and
nurturing our own. A Special thanks goes out to Squid and Alana (TIK), and,
Dementia, Steven and Ian (New scream) for all their hard work in making this a
reality for Toronto. Squid's told me a new Saturation series of Industrial
bands is in the process for early next year. Saturation 2 details will be
available over the next few months.
Savage is truly hot again. Summer
has finally arrived even though it's almost finished and the weekend crowds
have been streaming in. Lineups at Savage once more. Quick heads up to the vips
out there please remember your pins for front of line privileges. Don't worry
we still manage to get everyone in it just takes a little while longer. (Next
time you are coming down, you may want to think about arriving half an hour
earlier to avoid line-ups, they normally start around 12 - 12.15) How do we
know Savage Garden is hot, well just check out the press, A four page spread in
the last Comatose rose magazine on our newest Poster boys Karnage and Human
Clone. Didn't they look cute ladies? http://www.comatoserose.com

special thankyou to Bill Taylor of the star for his rather tongue in cheek but
extremely positive take on our subculture. Sorry to anyone who not only had to
listen to me dj for Saturady night but woke up to breakfast and my smiling face
whilst eating their Sunday cornflakes. Check out the article online, no pickys
but lots of Paul babble

Check out the upcoming comatose rose for an article on Savage! Due out next

Well That's about all for the round up at the min, but now that
summer is slipping away we have a non stop fall lineup of events. Culminating
of course in that one night that you should never miss at Savage, Halloween.
More details as we solidify them. I'll see you at the weekend. Paul
