PANIC - the ultimate 80's party

Subject: PANIC - the ultimate 80's party - starts Sat March 29

After the successful, 'Heroes of the 80's' parties it came to my attention that Toronto needs a *real* retro night. Not just a night that plays 80's, but a night that is the 80's. Hence the launch of the NEW monthly party called PANIC. Using music, videos, film, video games, and fashion we will recreate the craziness that was the 80's.

It is recommended that everyone be part of the vibe by dressing 80's style and showing us some of that fun loving 80's attitude. Fun is what this night is about, and fun you shall have. :)

PANIC - the ultimate 80's party
starts Saturday March 29 2003 and the last Saturday of every month thereafter Zen Lounge - 526 Queen St West
2 rooms of retro fun
Main Room: cool retro mix
Back Room: themes each month
$8 with 80's look
$10 for boring people

Launch 10pm 19+ event
http://www.djlazarus.com/panic (not much there right now)
http://www.djlazarus.com/ for draft of the flyer

Seeing as this is a two-room party, we will have a different theme each month in the back room.
Back Room Themes for the next 8 months are:
Sat March 29 - Erasure vs Pet Shop Boys
Sat April 26 - the Smiths vs Morrissey
Sat May 31 - Madonna vs Cyndi Lauper
Sat June 28 - New Order vs Joy Division
Sat July 26 - Front 242 vs Nitzer Ebb
Sat August 30 - Simple Minds vs Tears for Fears
Sat September 27 - Hair Metal Bands of the 80's
Sat October 25 - Annual Halloween retro Karaoke
more great themes are already planned

A seperate website is being designed for PANIC where you can submit your funny 80's picture and view other peoples. The site will also have lots of pictures from the parties as well as upcoming themes. If you visit the site right now, http://www.djlazarus.com/panic you can test your 80's music knowledge. I wrote a short story that uses 122 retro song titles. Your job is to figure out who wrote the songs. Good luck. There will also be a continuing contest each month where I will play one song form the 90's and if you are the first to identify this song and tell me it is not from the 80's you will win a totally rad prize.

PANIC seems far away (march 29), but I would start going through your wardrobe now looking for 80's fashions. If you don't own anything 80's style may I suggest checking out Value Village, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Kensington Market, or my closet. If you need fasion ideas, rent movies like Valley Girl, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Desperately Seeking Susan, or just watch retro videos on MuchMoreMusic. The fashion, makeup, and hairdo's are screaming to be brought back to life. If you can't find anything 80's style, just rip some clothes and wear sunglasses. Presto an instant 80's look.

Together we can bring the fun back into clubbing. :)
