A New Beginning: DJs Trauma and Anthithesis, Fridays @The Vatikan

It has been a week of high emotions and far-reaching, very interesting changes. I can’t say enough about the way people pulled together to show how much they think of DJ Trauma. I am deeply touched and very empowered. And if Toronto clubbers think the petition’s results were all for not, they wouldn’t quite be right. Others you mightn’t take into account were paying attention as well.

The story so far...

Fri., Nov. 1: Carbon Chamber Fridays is cancelled due to poor sales about two and a half months after it starts. Nov. 8 will be the last night. No personal dissatisfaction with dj performance is cited; Savage Garden owner Paul Samuels and DJ Trauma shake hands, and part amicably. Samuels will be out of the country for Trauma’s last night. It is known that DJs Human Clone and Karnage (from The Vatikan) will be taking over on Nov. 15.

Tues., Nov. 5: The Traumamail posting about the end of Carbon Chamber Fridays prompts two devoted fans (Dani and Jill) to start a petition to have Trauma reinstated as the Friday resident. The list of names and comments build steadily.

Wed., Nov. 6: Trauma addresses the petition and the issue of Carbon Chamber’s end, thanking everyone for their strong show of support, and reminding people that he does not dismiss his own responsibilities for the night’s success, and that it’s consistently solid attendance that would have made the difference. The petition continues to grow.

Fri., Nov. 8, 1pm: Trauma learns that The Vatikan owners are interested in the possibility of him coming on board for Fridays.
5pm: Trauma then learns that DJ Antithesis is also interested in playing on Fridays at The Vatikan, and they decide to form a partnership in pursuit of the night.
9pm: Trauma engages the final Carbon Chamber Friday, which is a very solid, fun, energetic, slightly more eclectic night than in the past. One of the best Friday nights in weeks. A great finish; owner Paul Samuels, of course, is not present to witness the night’s success or receive the petition with over 60 names.

Sat., Nov. 9: Trauma and Antithesis meet with The Vatikan co-owner Lance during Sin Saturday, and confirm with co-owner Johnny that Trauma and Antithesis will take over the Fridays previously occupied by Human Clone and Karnage, completing a full and bizarre switch of DJs between The Vatikan and Savage Garden.
