From DJ Lazarus regarding the
upcoming Synthpop Goes the World festival:
Synthpop Goes the World
June 28, 29, 30 of 2002
Toronto, Canada
@ Palais Royale (http://www.palaisroyale.net)
'Synthpop Goes the World' is a three day electronic music festival
involving 15 bands and several DJ's. It will showcase both old and new synthpop
and that future pop sound. This will be the concert event of the year and
should not be missed.
The Palais Royale is a historic landmark on Toronto's lakefront and offers an
opportunity to enjoy your favourite bands while having access to lake Ontario.
In addition, there are no noise pollution laws governing the Palais so we can
go as late as we want. :) Normally in Toronto, certain venues need to finish
concerts by 11pm because of noise complaints. The Palais has a few areas for
vending booths to sell CD's / merchandise and there is also the possibilty of
having DJ's downstairs. Bands will enjoy the private rooftop patio that over
looks the lake and their fans. There will be booze of all sorts and a barbecue
setup for food (other restaurants are just a short walk away). The event may
become a 19+ only event. However, if there is enough demand it will become all
ages event with a wrist band policy for those who wish to drink. The Palais
Royale is easily accessible by public transit and car.
The Palais will be going through some renovations this summer to make it even
greater. Hopefully, a few of these will be complete by Canada Day. This is a
location that truly kicks ass. For those non-Canadians out there; Canada Day
Weekend is Canada's Birthday which means Monday July 1st is a Holiday. This
means three nights of partying with great music, watching fireworks over the
lake (if they do it this year), and sleeping in on Monday.
The website http://www.synthpopgoestheworld.com is currently being
constructed and will go live by the end of February. Tickets will also go on
sell at this time and can be purchased through the website using Paypal,
through Ticket Master, or in person, at Siren. Estimated 3 day ticket prices
respectively, including taxes @ 17% (10% provincial entertainment tax & 7%
GST) and handling fees, will be $220CAN at Siren, $225CAN through PayPal,
$240CAN through Ticket Master. All locations will give you a voucher that will
be redeemed at the venue for a plastic keepsake 3 day pass. No actual tickets
will be mailed out. For those that think, "holy shit that is expensive',
just think that almost all the bands will be flown in from Europe and the
States, put up in a hotel, fed, paid a performance fee, and have equipment
rented for them. Also compare paying around $100CAN to see one band like
Depeche Mode, Bjork, or Roxy Music. This festival offers 15 great bands that
you would rarely get a chance to see and all in one weekend! By all accounts,
this is a great deal. If you want cheaper tix, there will be a preview party a
few months before the concert where tickets will be offered at a discounted
price and only music by the bands performing will be played. Watch for this
announcemnet. ;)
The Bands... I am sure everyone wants to know who is playing? Let's just say,
this will be the coolest lineup of bands ever assembled in North America. An
announcement will be made as each band signs an agreement. Keep your eyes open
for further info.
Hotels for out of town guests and the bands are currently being negotiated.
All pertinent info will be found on the official website when it goes live.
Cheers,
Lazarus
