Sanctuary Starbucks????

The Sanctuary Vampire Sex Bar (732 Queen W) closed it's doors on June 30th 2000. The corporate coffee chain Starbucks moved into the location. Starbucks held an offical opening party on April 4th 2001 when they encouraged people to "Come dressed in your best Gothic attire" and partake in complimentary beverages and watch a fashion show.

This location have been trying to call itself "Sanctuary Starbucks" and has released literature to that effect. I feel that this this is a prime example of corporate greed, and that Starbucks shouldn't be trying to steal the identity of the Sanctuary, or to use it as a promotional gimic.

comment from camilla:Although I do like a steaming sip once in awhile - I miss having a meeting place for all of my subs outside the dungeon (Jan.30.03)

comment from rosario_german@hotmail.com: hey! is there any located in argentina? i would like to turn to vampire sex german. (Jan.26.03)

Comment from Alissa: I like in Detroit Michigan although I come to Toronto once a year. Where I live there are no goth clubs. Well okay one, but obviously that gets old after awhile. The first time I ever went to Sanctuary I was 17-I'm 21 now. I love the place so much that every time I came back to Toronto I would go to the Sanctuary again. From the first time I went until they closed, I've been there dozens of times. Of course I've been to a myriad of other ones as well but for me nothing could compete with Sanctuary. It may not have been the best club but it was like a second home for me when I came from Detroit. (Dec.16.01)

Comment from Konfused: I don't see what all the commotion is about? The owner of the sanctuary probably sold out. Sanctuary was doing ok. I bet the owner had an opportunity to sell out to starbucks. The greed here is from the sanctuary..

Comment from Sara D: I don't have a problem with Starbucks, and I really don't think they care all that much about some little goth club that used to occupy the space. We're talking about a corporation that has taken over 100 year-old Manhattan banks. A little roach-infested club isn't going to make them so much as blink.

Comment from Dave: so i was driving by there on saturday...i was appalled by what i saw....how sad...very sad :(

Comment from Mel: Personally, I think this whole Starbucks thing is something to laugh at. There's nothing more pathetic than a SUB-CULTURE becoming corporate. Ah well. It's back to the clubs for me, I guess.

Comment from Ghoul: Although I really don't have a problem with Starbucks trying to maintain 'Sanctuary' historical appeal - but why won't the corporation hire goths to work there? If you want to maintain that atmosphere - Starbucks need to drop some of the predjudice and give the overall environment a more 'freaky' appeal.
