Friday February 23rd 2001 DJ Lazarus was supposed to do his regular night at the Anarchist's Cocktail, but did not. There are two (or more) sides to every story. Please take the time to read the words of both DJ Lazarus and the Anarchist's Cocktail (below).

From The Anarchists' Cocktail

It was a hard descion and long thought out to let DJ Lazarus go. DJ Lazarus and I have been talking since Novemeber about Friday nights. He continued to play his "Dark Rave" set and tried to force people to listen to it. I GAVE him a night of 300 people and all he had to do was to keep them happy. He didn't. When the night dropped to a hundred people I saw the writing on the wall. He says I wanted him to play "CFNY" music, I assume he means KORN, LIMP BIZKET, POPPA ROACH etc. Nothing is further from the truth. If you want to hear that you can go to Velvet Underground or Zen. NOT the Anarchists' Cocktail. I also didn't want to hear 5 hours of techno.

He asks everyone to "vote" for what they like by attending or not attending. You did. By the night dropping so drastically over 5 months you told me he didn't keep you happy. Take Saturday for example. DJ Jurgen plays what people want to dance to so they come back, week after week, rain, sleet, snow & -25 degree temperatures. Consistently sustains and builds up the crowd.

DJ Dave will be playing on Friday nights now, he will be spinning Industrial, Synth-pop, EBM, 80's, and he will be request sensitive. Something DJ Lazarus refused to do. DJ Dave kept you happy on Valentine's, and along with DJ Jurgen on New Years and Halloween. Now DJ Dave will keep you happy every Friday night. DJ Lazarus also feels I should have talked to him over the phone about it. I personally felt it was something I needed to say to him face to face and pay him in full for services to date. Like a professional.

I know many people in the Goth, Industrial scene in Toronto but some of you may not know me. I have been a promoter, manager, and now owner in this scene since Catch 22. It was there I met DJ Mars, DJ Jurgen, DJ Jeff C, Suzette, Jason Levesque, DJ Rono Box, DJ Ivan Palmer, DJ Dave, DJ Iain, and the owner of Catch 22 and owner of Velvet Underground. I started out doing the lights at Catch for Mars on Fridays, then moved in to help with promotions at Catch 22. At the time Jason Levesque was the main promoter. I promoted INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH Thursdays with DJ Jurgen, and I was second promoter for DJ Mars, Jurgen and Jeff C's SURGE Sundays at Power Bar and then at X-it to Eden. I was the promoter for EVOL Mondays with DJ Mars at Velvet (remember the postcards?) that night lasted 3-4 years. I began to manage the Velvet Underground for 3 years. Working for 2 of the most successful clubs in the scene I learned a lot.

I the opened The Anarchists' Cocktail with a partner a year after I left the Velvet. To fill a void in the scene that has been there since Catch closed and I'm glad we did. It has only been 5 months and it's been great. It will continue to get better and new DJ talent will be introduced as the time's change and as the customer's demand. (I have been testing out new, younger DJ's lately and from what I've heard play really cool stuff.) By the way, I also got DJ Lazarus the job on Sunday which was his first "real" club gig.

Thank-you for your continued patronage and support.
